CHURCH FOR THE UNCHURCHED, by George Hunter. Though published in 1996 this book should still be on the mandatory reading list for a course in evangelism. Hunter focuses in on the culture barriers that are both an invitation to some for church growth and which serve as a barrier for all the rest. Abingdon Press, 1996.
THE LEARNING CHURCH, by Michael Slaughter. When a church is intentional about its growth, and when it actually happens, chances are the leadership has been through a complete relearning process. It is hard to learn new things, but there are rewards in doing so. Group Publishing, 2002.
THE INTERNET GALAXY: Reflections fo the Internet, Business, and Society by Manuel Castells. A summary of his magisterial three-volume work on these issues and provides the busy pastor with the highlights of the work of a world class sociologist. Oxford University Press, 2001.

LOOKING IN THE MIRROR: Self-Appraisal the Local Church, by Lyle Schaller. An easy read and good introduction to understand congregational size and behavior. 1983, 200 pp.
CESAR’S WAY, The Natural Way to Understanding and Correcting Dog Problems, by Cesar Millan. It may be about leading dogs, but its description of non-anxious leadership relates beautifully to leading congregations. 2007, 320 pp.
